Quarles Petroleum Announces Restructuring
05/13/2013 - 2:38pm

Quarles Petroleum  began as a small family business in 1940, and has grown to a regional distributor with operations in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The Company recently announced plans to restructure.

Chief Executive Officer Ben Wafle will retire at the end of the calendar year, after 39 years with the company. The CEO position will transition to Paul Giambra, who has been with the company as its Chief Financial Officer since 2001. “I have every confidence that the owners and board have made the right choice to lead the company into the future,” Ben said.

The third generation of owner/operators, Doug, George and Bill Quarles will also transition out of management at the end of the year. Along with their sisters Kitty and Anne, they will focus on the overall strategic direction of the company through their continued participation on the owners council and board of directors. Doug Quarles said, “We are proud to have been part of the last 20 years of growth for Quarles Petroleum under the thoughtful leadership of Ben Wafle. This is the right time for us to step back from the operation of the business and concentrate on broader ownership issues.”

These changes in management will create room for a new generation of leadership under Giambra. “I look forward to working in my new position with the Quarles Family and the 250 employees to build upon our past achievements and position the company for further growth and success,” Paul said.

Painting Giveaway Winner Selected!
12/14/2012 - 9:51am

A winner has been selected for Quarles Petroleum's Art Comes Alive! giveaway.  Betsy Greene entered the giveaway after reading about it in the Free Lance-Star, and was delighted when her name was drawn as the winner!  Below, Betsy Quarles (right) presents the painting to Betsy Greene.

Betsy Quarles presents the painting to Betsy Greene.

About the giveaway: On September 22, 2012, Quarles co-sponsored the Art Comes Alive! event at the Fredericksburg Area Museum and cultural center. During the event, local artists painted to the music of a live jazz ensemble while guests walked around and observed. The artists’ paintings were auctioned off at the end of the evening with proceeds benefiting the museum. Quarles purchased Lorie McCown's painting of historic Fredericksburg at auction, and held this giveaway to share the excitement of this event with our friends and customers.

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway!

A Word from Safety Joe
12/03/2012 - 11:30am

With the winter fast approaching, Quarles' Safety Director, Joe Pennesi, has this message to share with our residential heating fuel customers:

Winter weather forecasts are calling for normal to above normal precipitation for our area.  So what does that mean to a Quarles Petroleum propane or heating oil customer?  Whenever we get snow or ice it presents a hazardous situation for our delivery vehicles making residential deliveries to your home.  VDOT and the localities do their very best to keep the roads travelable so we may make our deliveries, but that is only a small part of safely making a delivery to your home.  Consider the following to help us keep you warm & happy this winter:

  • Keep your driveway clear of snow and ice, and remember that our delivery vehicles are 8 feet wide -- over 2 feet wider than typical passenger vehicles!
  • If you have an underground fuel tank, please be sure to clear a path to it, and keep the tank lid free of snow so that we can locate the fill when making a delivery.

Our goal is to keep you warm and safe; you can help us to keep our drivers safe while meeting this goal.  Thanks for your help!
