All About Fuel Types

When you’re at the pump, you already know what type of gas or fuel to use for your vehicle. At Quarles, we make sure you have access to the right options – whether that’s premium diesel, gasoline, or alternative fuels for your vehicle.

Starting with our premium diesel, we carry it at most of our locations. Compared to standard diesel, premium diesel can improve fuel economy and engine performance. This is the most popular choice for drivers looking to maximize their vehicle’s performance and keep things running smoothly.

Biodiesel is a renewable alternative fuel made from plant oils/animal fats. Blended with diesel, it typically has a percentage in the name – for example, 2% biodiesel. Biodiesel is more environmentally friendly and cost-effective than petroleum diesel by itself. Light to heavy duty vehicles may use this to reduce emissions while maintaining performance.

Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is a colorless liquid used in many modern diesel engines. Stored in a separate tank, DEF is injected into the exhaust stream to reduce emissions by converting nitrogen dioxide and monoxide into harmless nitrogen and water. We offer DEF at many of our locations for your convenience.

Ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) is a type of diesel fuel with lower sulfur content. Usually, diesel vehicles that are model year 2007 or later require this fuel type. This fuel type contains lower emissions, or sulfur oxide, to help protect your engine.

Propane and autogas are clean-burning alternative fuels commonly used in fleet vehicles, such as school buses. Compared to gasoline and diesel, they offer reduced emissions and lower operating costs.

Unleaded gasoline is available in regular, mid-grade, and super/premium options, defined by its octane rating. A higher octane rating means higher engine performance and power. Most vehicles run on standard petrol while others may require a higher octane to produce more power.

We understand fuel needs vary, which is why we make it easy to find what you need when you need it.
